21,000 SF - Retail
The Fifth Street Public Market, a prominent presence in Eugene for decades, has undergone a major transformation in celebration of its 30th birthday. The original industrial buildings have evolved over the years into a key destination in downtown Eugene with a unique mix of offices, retail stores and dining. The redesign of Fifth Street Public Market strives to create a successful environment for its retailers and sustains the Market's mission of promoting locally and Oregon-owned and operated businesses.
The 21,000 sf addition and renovation have been designed to recognize the Market's historic character while improving the experience for its patrons and tenants. The new and expanded southeast entrance is a beacon for the Market, signalizing a main entrance to the reconfigured and upgraded retail tenant spaces on two floors. Traditional materials are used in a contemporary way by incorporating red-orange terra cotta panels with stucco and tall glass curtain walls. The carefully crafted architectural details of the stair and custom Market door pulls introduce you to a rich experience of diverse retail storefronts and display areas.
The renewed fountain courtyard energizes the Market core. This space is the heart of the Market, and has many emotional ties to community. The redesign of the new fountain maintains the historic form and enhances the opportunity to see the play of water and to allow light to bounce and glisten off its surface. The open floor plan provides more flexibility and opportunities to relax within the charm of its sound.
