Nike Store

McKay Investment Company, Eugene Oregon
PDF download project

Originally conceived as a speculative 6,500 square foot retail building to suit an unknown future tenant, the new Nike building at Oakway Center was, at groundbreaking, to be rendered in the traditional forms and materials that have come to characterize the Heritage Courtyard at Oakway. Nike's late arrival to the project triggered an intense and enthusiastic redesign collaboration between TBG and Nike's designers to bring a unique flavor to Nike's new Eugene home.

Located within the Oakway Center at the corner of Oakway and Coburg Roads, the new store merges a warm Pacific Northwest architectural aesthetic with a crisp and minimal modern design sensibility. The exterior materials include sustainably harvested, richly colored Brazilian Ipe wood siding on the upper facade of the building, soffits and the store's main entry doors. This engages the smooth finished stucco surface and a sleek, butt-glazed aluminum storefront system on the lower facade. The tower at the building's prominent northwest corner acts not only as a beacon to the store itself, but to Oakway Center as well. The tower is clad in stucco, glass, and custom-colored aluminum panels. This elegant use of materials on the store's exterior naturally draws one into the exciting new retail interior design from Nike's Retail Store Development studio.

This union of architectural styles, cutting edge interior and the iconic "Swoosh" launch an invigorating new retail experience for Nike in the town where it all started.
