Spiritual places TBG designs provide a variety of realms in which to transition and experience levels of reflection, comfort, peace and community that help each unique individual visitor achieve their spiritual needs. They are not all religious. They are not all formal. They are, however, all openly embracing and inviting, ready to give.

The New Synagogue for Temple Beth Israel in Eugene, Oregon provides such a place for the community. The creative placement of the various building and outdoor spaces on a significantly sloped site successfully integrated a series of flexible worship, gathering, educational and administrative functions, all organized around internal courtyards and adjoining garden spaces that bring plentiful natural light into the building. It embodies sustainable design features such as sunshades and deciduous trellises, interior light shelves, borrowed daylighting, natural stack ventilation, and minimal mechanical and electrical systems. The courtyards, gardens and grounds are carefully landscaped with symbolic and regionally-based plants.

TBG's work also included the restoration and re-invention of a variety of spiritual spaces such as St. Mary's Chapel, the Chapel at Sacred Heart Medical Center, United Lutheran Church, and the conversion of the old Sacred Heart Chapel into a Medical Education Auditorium. Most recently, our Master Planning for Serenity Lane has included studies for the inclusion of a Spiritual Center that will provide contemplative spaces for those recovering from addictions.
