The new Synagogue for Temple Beth Israel is a study of balance between Community Values, Sustainability, Enduring Design Qualities, Neighborhood Context and Budget. Years of hopeful planning lead to a final process that collaboratively engaged a dedicated and talented Owner's Building Committee and dozens of highly activated Community members with TBG, our Consultants, and McKenzie Commercial Contractors and their subcontractors.
The precise placement of the building and outdoor spaces on a significantly sloped site allowed all program requirements to be met in a pleasing and highly functional manner. Significant input from the Owner's Arts, Sacred Spaces and Sustainability Committees resulted in a facility that is ready to embrace the Community's long-term aspirations.
The building incorporates many sustainable design features such as primary and future exterior sunshades and planted deciduous trellies, interior lightshelves, borrowed daylighting provisions, natural stack ventilation, and minimal mechanical and electrical systems. The courtyards, gardens and grounds are carefully landscaped with symbolic and regionally based plants that are drip irrigated.
